Here Are Some Tips for Tattoo Aftercare:

KEEP IT COVERED:

After getting your new tattoo, I will cover it with a bandage or plastic wrap to protect it from bacteria and irritation. Leave this covering on for the time specified, which will vary depending on the size of your piece.

CLEAN GENTLY:

Once you remove the initial covering, wash the tattoo gently with mild, fragrance-free soap and lukewarm water. Use your clean hands, not a washcloth or sponge, to avoid unnecessary irritation.

PAT DRY:

After washing, pat the tattoo dry with a clean, soft towel. Avoid rubbing, as it can irritate the tattoo even more.

APPLY AN OINTMENT OR MOISTURIZER:

Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free, alcohol-free ointment or moisturizer after drying. This helps keep the tattoo hydrated and promotes healing. Repeat this process 2-3 times daily. We typically recommend Aquaphor!

AVOID DIRECT SUNLIGHT:

Protect your tattoo from direct sunlight during healing. UV rays can fade the colors and slow down the healing process. If sun exposure is unavoidable, use a high-SPF sunscreen.

AVOID SWIMMING:

Stay out of pools, hot tubs, and other bodies of water, as they can introduce bacteria and irritants to the healing tattoo.

AVOID PICKING OR SCRATCHING:

It's normal for a tattoo to itch during healing, but resist the urge to scratch or pick at it. This can damage the tattoo and increase the risk of infection.

WEAR LOOSE CLOTHING:

Choose loose-fitting, breathable clothing to avoid rubbing and irritation on the tattooed area.

STAY HYDRATED AND MAINTAIN A HEALTHY DIET:

Proper hydration and a well-balanced diet contribute to overall skin health and aid healing.

If you experience any unusual redness, swelling, or signs of infection, contact your tattoo artist or a healthcare professional promptly. Every person's skin is different, so paying attention to your body's reactions and following the specific aftercare instructions your tattoo artist gives is essential.

Why is Proper Aftercare for New Tattoos So Important?

Caring for a new tattoo is crucial for several reasons, as proper aftercare significantly influences the healing process and the final appearance of the tattoo. Here are some key reasons why it's essential to care for your new tattoo as we instruct:

PREVENT INFECTION:

The skin is temporarily more vulnerable after getting a tattoo. Proper aftercare helps prevent infection by keeping the tattooed area clean and protected from bacteria and other contaminants.

PROMOTE PROPER HEALING:

Caring for your tattoo promotes optimal healing. Following the recommended aftercare routine helps minimize scabbing, reduce inflammation, and prevent complications that could affect the appearance of the tattoo.

PRESERVE COLORS AND DETAILS:

Adequate aftercare helps maintain the vibrancy and integrity of your tattoo's colors and details. Keeping a new tattoo moisturized prevents it from drying out, which can lead to fading and distortion of the design.

MINIMIZE SCARRING:

Proper care reduces the risk of scarring and promotes the formation of a smooth, even skin surface. This is important for ensuring the tattoo looks as intended once fully healed.

PREVENT ITCHING AND DISCOMFORT:

Tattoos often go through an itchy phase during healing. Following aftercare instructions can help alleviate itching and discomfort while preventing the temptation to scratch or pick at the tattoo, which could lead to damage.

MAINTAIN THE LONGEVITY OF THE TATTOO:

A well-cared-for tattoo is more likely to stand the test of time. Proper aftercare contributes to the tattoo's longevity, ensuring it remains vibrant and clear for years.
